HURRICANES PLACE HUTCHINSON ON INJURED RESERVE
Defenseman had wrist surgery, Aaron Ward to be activated from IR on Friday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Feb. 2, 2006

RALEIGH, NC –
Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has placed defenseman Andrew Hutchinson on injured reserve. Hutchinson had surgery on his left wrist today in Raleigh, after he injured it during Tuesday night’s game in Montreal, and is expected to miss two months of action. Defenseman Aaron Ward, who had surgery to repair a hernia on Jan. 11, will be activated from injured reserve on Friday prior to the team’s game in New Jersey.

Hutchinson, 25, has 10 points (3g, 7a) in 32 games with the Hurricanes this season. Acquired from the Nashville Predators on June 29, 2005 in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2005 Entry Draft, Hutchinson has 18 points (7g, 11a) in 50 career NHL games with Nashville and Carolina.

Ward, 33, has missed 10 games since having hernia surgery. The Windsor, Ont., native tallied 13 points (3g, 10a) in 42 games prior to the injury. Originally acquired by Carolina from Detroit in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2002 Entry Draft, Ward has 87 points (28g, 59a) in 523 career NHL games with Carolina and Detroit.

The Carolina Hurricanes continue a four-game road swing on Friday against the New Jersey Devils (7:30 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network), a game which will feature the Hurricanes debut of newly-acquired center Doug Weight. The Hurricanes kicked off the road trip with an 8-2 victory at Montreal on Tuesday night. Following Friday’s game, the Hurricanes will also travel to Boston and Tampa Bay before the team returns to the RBC Center to host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 10. Individual game tickets for all remaining Hurricanes games at the RBC Center can be purchased at the RBC Center box office, all TicketMaster outlets, by calling 919-834-4000 or via CarolinaHurricanes.com.
