HURRICANES ASSIGN ANTON BABCHUK TO LOWELL
Defenseman was acquired from Chicago on Jan. 20

RALEIGH, NC –
Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that defenseman Anton Babchuk has been assigned to the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League. Babchuk tallied two goals in 10 games with the Hurricanes since being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 20 in exchange for Danny Richmond.

Babchuk, 21, is currently in his third professional season in North America. Prior to the trade, he split the year between Chicago (NHL) and Norfolk (AHL). In 17 games with Chicago, he registered five points (2g, 3a) and 16 penalty minutes, scoring his first NHL goal on Dec. 15 at Nashville. The Kiev, Ukraine, native tallied 12 points (5g, 7a) in 24 games with Norfolk this season.

The Carolina Hurricanes host the Florida Panthers tonight at the RBC Center (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network) before hitting the road for nine of their next 10 games.
