FRANCIS NIGHT JERSEYS TO BE AUCTIONED ONLINE

Auction begins Friday for 26 commemorative #10 sweaters worn during warm-ups

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 22, 2006

RALEIGH, NC – Emma Bennett, Community Relations Manager for the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team will auction off 26 commemorative number 10 jerseys specifically created for their Jan. 28 game against the Atlanta Thrashers, which was Ron Francis Night at the RBC Center. In honor of their former captain's tremendous career, each Hurricanes player participating in warm-ups wore a Francis sweater embroidered with the player's own number on the chest and sleeve.

The sweaters have each been signed by Ron Francis and will be available via an online auction, which will begin on Friday, March 24 at 10 a.m. and conclude on Sunday, April 2. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Carolina Hurricanes Kids 'N Community Foundation, which supports children's charities and educational programs throughout North Carolina.

The career of Ron Francis spanned 23 years and 1,767 games during which he scored 549 goals and earned 1,249 assists, to rank him second in NHL history in assists and fourth on the league's all-time points list. Francis' achievements were not limited to just to on-ice records and accolades. He was a consistent supporter of charitable organizations – especially children's groups such as the Kids 'N Community Foundation.

The Kids 'N Community Foundation is actively supported by Hurricanes players and their wives with fundraising events including the Annual Charity Golf Tournament, Skate With the Canes, the "We Love the Hurricanes Luncheon" and the Charity Casino Night & Wine Tasting. The Foundation also raises funds through game-night silent auctions as well as this on-line auction. The Carolina Hurricanes complete a four-game road trip tonight as they take on the Buffalo Sabres at HSBC Arena (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network).
