HURRICANES TO SHARE AHL CLUB WITH AVALANCHE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 18, 2006
RALEIGH, NC – Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the Hurricanes will partner with the Colorado Avalanche in 2006-07 to provide players for the roster of the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League.
The 2006-07 season will mark the second consecutive year that Carolina and Colorado have each sent their top prospects to the same AHL club. Under the terms of the one-year agreement between the NHL franchises, each team will provide 10 players to Albany to fulfill the affiliation agreement between the Hurricanes and the River Rats. Assistant Coach Joe Sacco will once again join Head Coach/General Manager Tom Rowe behind the bench to guide the team of Carolina and Colorado prospects. Carolina’s affiliation with Albany has two option years following the 2006-07 season.
The Carolina Hurricanes will face the Buffalo Sabres tonight at the RBC Center in both teams’ regular-season finale (7 p.m., OLN, Hurricanes Radio Network). Following the conclusion of tonight’s 10 NHL contests, the league will make available the first-round schedules for the 16 playoff-qualifying teams.
