FRANTISEK KABERLE UNDERGOES SHOULDER SURGERY
Hulse added to training camp roster

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Sept. 11, 2006

Frank Kaberle led all Carolina defensemen in points (44) and assists (38) and was tied for first among defensemen with six goals scored during the 2005-06 season.

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, announced Monday that defenseman Frantisek Kaberle underwent surgery on his shoulder that morning. Dr. Anthony A. Romeo performed the surgery at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, and Kaberle is expected to need four to six months to recover from the procedure.

Kaberle, 32, completed his sixth NHL season and first with the Hurricanes in 2005-06. The Kladno, Czech Republic, native led all Carolina defensemen in points (44) and assists (38) and was tied for first among defensemen in goals (6). During the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he played in all 25 postseason contests to capture his first career Stanley Cup.

He ranked second among NHL defensemen in playoff goals (4), tied for first in power-play goals (3) and fourth in scoring (13 points). Kaberle had five points (2g, 3a) in seven games during the Stanley Cup Finals against Edmonton, including a second-period power-play tally that proved to be the game-winning goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Hurricanes have added one more player to their 2006 Training Camp Roster, as defensemen Cale Hulse will participate in camp as a free agent tryout. Hulse, 32, completed his 10th NHL season in 2005-06, totaling four points (0g, 4a) in 39 games with Phoenix and Columbus. In 619 career NHL games with New Jersey, Calgary, Nashville, Phoenix and Columbus, Hulse has totaled 16 goals and 79 assists (95 points) and 1,000 penalty minutes.
