HURRICANES RELEASE DEFENSEMAN CALE HULSE

Veteran free-agent tryout skated in two exhibition games

RALEIGH, NC —
Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the 2006 Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that defenseman Cale Hulse has been released from the team’s training camp.

Hulse, a 10-year NHL veteran, attended the Hurricanes’ training camp on a free-agent tryout basis, and skated in two of Carolina’s three exhibition games this past weekend. In the two games, Hulse (6’3”, 220 lbs.) earned three assists, averaged more than 17 minutes of ice time and posted a minus-2 plus/minus rating. The 32-year old Edmonton, Alb., native played in 39 NHL games in 2005-06, and registered four assists and 63 penalty minutes for Calgary and Columbus.

The Hurricanes are hosting their annual Kids ‘N Community Golf Tournament today at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, and will return to the ice at the RBC Center for practice at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Carolina will wrap up its exhibition schedule with a Friday night rematch against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the RBC Center, and a 1 p.m. Sunday matinee against the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC.

The Carolina Hurricanes will open the 2006-07 season at the RBC Center on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. against the Buffalo Sabres.
