GAME NOTES: Carolina Hurricanes at Atlanta Thrashers

Tonight's Game

The Carolina Hurricanes continue their seven-game road swing on Friday against the Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena (7:30 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network). Friday’s game marks the third consecutive road game for the Hurricanes and the third consecutive game against a Southeast Division opponent.

The Hurricanes enter Friday’s game with a 0-3-1 record after earning a point against Buffalo in the season opener on Oct. 4 in a shootout loss, and then suffering losses against New Jersey, at Washington and at Florida. Following Friday’s game, the Hurricanes will travel to Pittsburgh for a Saturday night match up against the Penguins and then travel to Tampa Bay before returning to Raleigh.

Carolina Notes

On Oct. 11 at Florida, winger Scott Walker and center Eric Belanger each notched their first goals with the Hurricanes in a 6-3 loss. Walker and Belanger also each earned assists in the game, marking both players’ first multi-point games with Carolina. Of the seven goals generated by the Hurricanes in the team’s first four games, Walker and/or Belanger have factored on three while defenseman Tim Gleason factored on one.

Against the Thrashers

Friday marks the first of eight 2006-07 regular-season meetings between the Hurricanes and the Thrashers, and the first of four meetings between the teams this season at Philips Arena. The teams will next meet on Oct. 25 at the RBC Center, and will return to Philips Arena on Nov. 1.

Last season, the Hurricanes posted a 4-4-0 record in eight games against the Thrashers, scoring two wins at home and two on the road, including one in overtime. Justin Williams (4g, 5a) and Rod Brind’Amour (1g, 8a) led all Hurricanes scorers in the eight-game season series while Ilya Kovalchuk paced the Thrashers with 12 points (9g, 3a). The Hurricanes post a 22-7-4-1 all-time record against the Thrashers, including a 12-4-1 home mark and a 10-3-3-1 record at Philips Arena.
