GAME NOTES: Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning

Monday's Game

The Carolina Hurricanes continue their seven-game road swing and look for their third straight win on Monday against the Tampa Bay Lightning at St. Pete Times Forum (7 p.m., Versus, Hurricanes Radio Network). Monday’s game marks the fifth consecutive road game for the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes enter Monday’s game with a 2-3-1 record after earning a point against Buffalo in the season opener on Oct. 4 in a shootout loss, suffering losses against New Jersey, at Washington and at Florida before scoring their first wins at Atlanta on Friday and at Pittsburgh on Saturday. Following Monday’s game, the Hurricanes will fly to Raleigh and will practice at home until leaving for Buffalo on Thursday.

Carolina Notes

On Oct. 11 at Florida, winger Scott Walker and center Eric Belanger each notched their first goals with the Hurricanes in a 6-3 loss. Walker and Belanger also each earned assists in the game, marking both players’ first multi-point games with Carolina. Walker scored two goals in the Hurricanes’ 5-1 win at Pittsburgh on Oct. 14 and the 33-year old is now tied for the team lead with three goals and five points in Carolina’s first six games.

Against the Lightning

Monday marks the first of eight meetings this season between the Hurricanes and the Lightning – the last two Stanley Cup champions. Last season, the Hurricanes posted a 3-3-2 record against the Lightning, taking three of the teams’ four meetings at the RBC Center, and losing all four games at St. Pete Times Forum, two in overtime. Eric Staal (4g, 5a) and Cory Stillman (4g, 5a), led the Hurricanes with nine points each in the eight-game series last year, while Brad Richards (4g, 9a) led Tampa Bay with 13 points. The Hurricanes post a 27-21-12-1 all-time record against the Lightning, including an 18-5-7-1 home record and a 9-16-5 mark along the Gulf Coast.
