Carolina Notes

With a four-point night on Nov. 1 in Atlanta, Hurricanes captain Rod Brind’Amour pulled within a single point of reaching the 1,000-point mark for his NHL career. Brind’Amour closed in on that milestone while reaching another, becoming the 66th player to skate in 1,200 NHL games during Carolina’s 5-2 victory against the Thrashers. Acquired by Carolina on Jan. 23, 2000, Brind’Amour played his 400th game with the Hurricanes on Oct. 7 in Washington and currently ranks 12th among active players and 71st in NHL history in points with 999. The 2006 Selke Trophy winner reached the 600-assist mark on Oct. 13 in Atlanta, and is 14 goals shy of 400 in his career.

Ottawa will travel to Raleigh for the team’s second meeting of the season on Nov. 28.

Last season the teams split their four-game regular-season series with each team winning once and losing once on home ice, and Ottawa outscoring Carolina 14-10 in the four games. Now-Senators goaltender Martin Gerber started all four games for Carolina last season, posting a 2-2-0 record, a 3.29 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. Now-Red Wings netminder Dominik Hasek posted a 2-2-0 record, a 2.52 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage while playing every minute for Ottawa against Carolina last season. Dany Heatley led all scorers with five points (1g, 4a) in the four-game set, while Eric Staal (2g, 2a) and Justin Williams (1g, 3a) paced the Hurricanes. Carolina posts a 31-21-8 all-time record against the Senators with a 17-8-4 home record and a 14-13-4 record in the Ottawa region.
