Tuesday's Game
The Carolina Hurricanes travel to New Jersey for a Tuesday night match up against the New Jersey Devils (7 p.m., Versus, Hurricanes Radio Network). Tuesday’s game is the NHL’s “Game of the Week” on Versus – the only game that can be seen during its timeframe in the United States – and will be broadcast in high definition. The Hurricanes will return to Raleigh following Tuesday’s game and will begin a four-game home stand on Thursday against Washington.

Hurricanes captain Rod Brind’Amour earned his 1,000th NHL point when he set up Carolina’s first goal in a 3-2 win at Ottawa on Nov. 4. Brind’Amour, 36, had four points in Carolina’s 5-2 win at Atlanta on Nov. 1, his 1,200th NHL game. Acquired by Carolina on Jan. 23, 2000, Brind’Amour played his 400th game with the Hurricanes on Oct. 7 in Washington and currently ranks 12th among active players and 71st in NHL history in points with 1,000 points. The 2006 Selke Trophy winner reached the 600-assist mark on Oct. 13 in Atlanta, and is 14 goals shy of 400 in his career.

Hurricanes winger Ray Whitney scored two goals and two assists on Nov. 1 in Atlanta, matching his career high for points in a single game, previously set on March 11, 2002 as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets against the Pittsburgh Penguins. On Nov. 4 at Ottawa, Whitney scored two goals – including the game winner – and earned an assist for his seventh multi-point game of the season and his third multi-point game in the Hurricanes’ last four games. Whitney currently has six multi-assist games, and is currently ranked tied for first on the team in points (19) and second in assists (14). Whitney posted 17 goals and 38 assists (55 points) in 2005-06, his first season with the Hurricanes.

Against the Devils

Tuesday’s game marks the second of four meetings between the Hurricanes and the Devils. New Jersey netminder Martin Brodeur recorded a 4-0 shutout win in the teams’ first meeting on Oct. 6. The two teams met four times during the 2005-06 season with Carolina posting a 2-1-1 record. The teams also met in the 2006 Eastern Conference Semifinals with Carolina emerging with a 4-1 win in the best-of-seven series.

Rod Brind’Amour (3g, 1a), Matt Cullen (1g, 3a) and Cory Stillman (0g, 4a) led all Hurricanes skaters with four points in the four-game regular-season series between the teams in 2005-06 while Brian Gionta (2g, 3a) led the Devils. The Hurricanes post a 36-44-13-1 all-time regular-season record against the Devils with a 19-19-9 home record and a 17-25-4-1 record in on the road.
