AGAINST THE CAPITALS
Friday marks the third of eight 2006-07 regular-season meetings between the Hurricanes and the Capitals, and the second of four meetings between the teams at the Verizon Center. Washington took the teams’ first meeting of the season on Oct. 7 at the Verizon Center by a 5-2 margin, and the Hurricanes returned the favor by taking the teams’ second game on Nov. 9 at the RBC Center by a 5-0 score. The Hurricanes posted a 5-3-0 record in eight contests against Washington in 2005-06, with Captain Rod Brind'Amour leading all scorers in the series with 11 points (6g, 5a). Dainius Zubrus (5g, 5a) and Alex Ovechkin (3g, 7a) led all Capitals scorers with 10 points each in last season's series. The Hurricanes post a 35-56-14-1 all-time record against the Capitals, including an 18-25-10-1 home record and a 17-31-4 road record.

AGAINST THE STARS
Saturday marks the lone meeting between the Hurricanes and the Stars this season, and also marks Carolina’s first of 10 games this season against Western Conference opponents. With the NHL’s more division- and conference-based schedule, introduced for the 2005-06 season, the Hurricanes will host Pacific Division teams and travel to Northwest Division teams this season. The Hurricanes went 2-2-1 in their five road games against Pacific Division teams and 5-0-0 in home games against Central Division teams last season. The Hurricanes will not play Central Division teams this season Carolina and Dallas last met on Dec. 2, 2005, at Dallas’ American Airlines Center, and suffered a 5-4 shootout loss. In 62 all-time games against the Stars franchise, the Hurricanes franchise has posted a 23-31-7-1 record, with a 13-15-4 home mark and a 10-16-3-1 road record.
