\'CANES TO JOIN HABITAT FOR HUMANITY ON WEDNESDAY
Coach, players, wives and staffers to help build home for Katrina-affected family

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Dec. 11, 2006

RALEIGH, NC—Chris Diamond, Manager of Community Relations for the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team will partner with Habitat for Humanity on a one-day build to help build a home for a family displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The effort is part of an NHL/NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) $500,000 initiative to lend assistance to people affected by the 2005 storm that devastated parts of the United States’ Gulf Coast region.

Hurricanes Head Coach Peter Laviolette, select Hurricanes players, spouses, team staff and broadcasters, and members of the team’s booster club will be on hand for the one-day building effort that is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in the RBC Center parking lot. There will be a news conference at 2 p.m., featuring a special wall-raising photo opportunity and a ceremonial “pass the hammer” event where players will add their signatures to a hammer traveling to all of the NHL home builds that are a part of the initiative. Players will be building, and available for interviews beginning at 2 p.m.

The Carolina Hurricanes face the Colorado Avalanche tonight at the Pepsi Center in the final game of a four-game road trip against Northwest Division opponents. The team will return to Raleigh following Monday’s game, and will face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday, Dec. 15 at the RBC Center. Individual-game tickets for all Hurricanes home games in December and January are available at the RBC Center box office, all TicketMaster locations, by calling 919-834-4000 or via www.CarolinaHurricanes.com.
