TOMORROW’S GAME
The Carolina Hurricanes travel to Pittsburgh for a Tuesday night match up against the Penguins at Mellon Arena (7:30 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network). The Hurricanes have won six of their last eight games, dating back to a 3-2 win at Tampa Bay on Dec. 16. CAROLINA NOTES

  • The Hurricanes have posted a 3-4-1 record in their first games of January since relocating to North Carolina.
  • Carolina has won each of their last three games at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh’s last win at home against the Hurricanes came on March 19, 2004, a 4-3 overtime victory.
  • Hurricanes leading goal scorer Justin Williams led all NHLers with 10 regular-season game-winning goals in calendar year 2006, one ahead of San Jose Sharks sniper Jonathan Cheechoo.
  • The Hurricanes and the Penguins have combined to score 45 goals in their last six meetings. Neither team has shutout the other since Kevin Weekes and the Hurricanes blanked the Pens 4-0 on March 6, 2003.

AGAINST THE PENGUINS
Tuesday marks the third of four meetings this season between the Hurricanes and the Penguins, and the second of two contests between the clubs in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh took the teams’ first meeting at Mellon Arena on Oct. 14 by a 5-1 score, and scored a 6-2 win at the RBC Center on Nov. 11. Last season, the Hurricanes posted a 3-1-0 record in four games against the Penguins, scoring a shootout win at the RBC Center and two wins at Mellon Arena. Eric Staal led all scorers with 12 points (4g, 8a) in the four-game set while Mark Recchi, who joined the Hurricanes at the trading deadline, paced Pittsburgh with five points (4g, 1a) in the season series between the teams. The Carolina franchise holds a 43-45-11-1 all-time record against the Penguins, with a 24-22-5 home record and a 19-23-6-1 record in the Civic Arena.
