Defenseman notched seven points in nine AHL games

RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that defenseman Anton Babchuk has been recalled from the team’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Albany River Rats.
Babchuk, 22, notched one goal and six assists (7 points) for Albany in nine games after his assignment to the AHL on Feb. 6. Prior to being assigned to Albany, the Kiev, Ukraine, native had totaled two goals and 12 assists (14 points) in 51 games with the Hurricanes. Acquired from Chicago on Jan. 20, 2006 in exchange for Danny Richmond, Babchuck (6’5’’, 212 lbs.) has 26 points (7g, 19a) in 95 career NHL games with Chicago and Carolina.
The Carolina Hurricanes begin a two-game road trip at Washington on Friday (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network) before traveling on to New York for a Sunday afternoon game against the Rangers (12:30 p.m., NBC, Hurricanes Radio Network). Carolina returns to the RBC Center on March 13 to take on the Florida Panthers (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network) in the first game of a two-game home stand.
