RALEIGH, NC—Curt Johnson, Director of Marketing for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that a groundbreaking ceremony will take place Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. for the grand prize in the ‘Canes 10th Anniversary Season Home and Prize Giveaway presented by St. Lawrence Homes.

Team President and General Manager Jim Rutherford, Vice President and Assistant General Manager Jason Karmanos, Head Coach Peter Laviolette and Hurricanes captains will be on hand for the event. St. Lawrence Homes President and Owner Bob Ohmann and Vice President of Sales and Marketing Rich Ohmann will also take part in the ceremony. In addition, Stormy and select Storm Squad members will attend the festivities.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at Litchborough Way, Lot 9, in the Northampton subdivision of Wake Forest. Those attending, and traveling from Raleigh, should follow U.S. 1 North/Capital Blvd. to N.C. Hwy 98 Bypass East, turn right on Jones Dairy Farm Road and turn right into the Northampton subdivision. When you see the big brick monument, make the first right to the building site.

Throughout the 2007-08 season, the Hurricanes are conducting a contest which will have, as its grand prize, a new home valued at more than $340,000 by St. Lawrence Homes. The 3,137-square-foot, four-bedroom, three-bathroom home will be constructed over the course of the season.

In addition to the house, more than 140 individual prizes, including game tickets, autographed items, merchandise and items from Hurricanes sponsors will be given out during the promotion, which kicks off on Oct. 3.  The winner of the grand prize will be determined at a drawing during the Hurricanes’ final regular-season game on April 4. For more information on the contest, please visit www.CarolinaHurricanes.com.

The Carolina Hurricanes will have intrasquad Red-White scrimmages at 6 p.m. both Tuesday and Wednesday at the RBC Center. The scrimmages are open to the general public and media, and parking and admission are free. The Hurricanes will host the Nashville Predators on Friday at 7 p.m. in their second exhibition game of the 2007 preseason.
