Hurricanes Trim Roster to 25 Players
Updated Training Camp Roster
RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has trimmed its training camp roster to 25 players. Forward Trevor Gillies and goaltender Michael Leighton have been assigned to Albany of the American Hockey League, while center Brandon Sutter, Carolina’s first-round (11th overall) pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, will return to his junior club, Red Deer of the Western Hockey League.
Carolina will continue its six-game preseason schedule on Thursday at Columbus’ Nationwide Arena at 7 p.m. Thursday’s match up is the first game of a back-to-back, home-and-home series between the Hurricanes and the Blue Jackets, which will conclude Friday, Sept. 28 at the RBC Center at 7 p.m.
The Albany River Rats, Carolina’s top minor-league affiliate, will open their preseason schedule against the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, Sept. 28, at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Houston Field House in Troy, NY.
