RALEIGH, NC— Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has reassigned forward Keith Aucoin to the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL).
The Hurricanes recalled Aucoin, 29, on Jan. 3, and he played in Carolina’s last three games at Atlanta on Jan. 4, at St. Louis on Jan. 5 and at Boston in the Hurricanes’ 1-0 win tonight. He earned an assist at Atlanta and averaged of ice time in the three games during his second recall to the NHL this season. The Waltham, MA, native has played in nine games with the Hurricanes this season, earning three assists and a plus-2 plus/minus rating. On Dec. 13, the AHL named Aucoin (5’9”, 187 lbs.) captain for the PlanetUSA team at the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic, scheduled for Jan. 28 in Binghamton, NY. At the time of his recall Aucoin led the River Rats with 25 assists and 32 points in 29 games. Aucoin has earned five assists in 24 career NHL games, all with Carolina, since signing with the Hurricanes as a free agent on Aug. 4, 2005.
