'Canes Recall Aucoin, Nolan from Albany
Forwards to be available for tonight’s game against New Jersey
RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forwards Keith Aucoin and Brandon Nolan from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. Aucoin and Nolan will be available for Carolina’s game tonight against the New Jersey Devils at the RBC Center (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network).
This marks the third NHL recall this season for Aucoin, 29, who played in Carolina’s last game at Boston on Jan. 8. The Waltham, MA, native was reassigned to Albany following that game and earned two assists in the River Rats’ 3-1 win last night at Manchester. He leads Albany in assists (27) and points (34) while playing in 30 of the team’s 40 games this season. In nine NHL games with the Hurricanes this season, Aucoin (5’9”, 187 lbs.) has earned three assists while averaging 8:00 of ice time per game. On Dec. 13, the AHL named Aucoin (5’9”, 187 lbs.) captain for the PlanetUSA team at the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic, scheduled for Jan. 28 in Binghamton, NY.
Nolan, 24, was reassigned to Albany prior to Carolina’s game at Boston on Tuesday, and is being recalled to the Hurricanes for a third time this season. The St. Catharine’s, Ont., native made his NHL debut with Carolina at Tampa Bay on Dec. 22, and has played in four games with the Hurricanes this season, earning one assist and averaging 6:49 of ice time. Nolan (6’1”, 192 lbs.) ranks second among River Rats skaters with 13 goals, and tied for second with 27 points while playing in 32 AHL games this season.
