Canes Recall Dwyer and Jensen from Albany

RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forwards Patrick Dwyer and Joe Jensen from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. Rutherford also announced that forwards Wade Brookbank and Ray Whitney have been placed in injured reserve. Dwyer and Jensen will be available for the Hurricanes’ game tomorrow at the RBC Center against the Ottawa Senators.

For Dwyer, 24, this marks his first NHL recall since turning professional at the end of the 2004-05 season. In 54 games with the River Rats this season, he has scored 11 goals, earned eight assists (19 points) and compiled a plus-six plus/minus rating. Dwyer (5’11”, 175 lbs.) turned professional following a four-year collegiate career at Western Michigan University, and has totaled 43 goals and 62 assists (105 points) in 206 AHL regular-season games with Chicago and Albany. The Atlanta Thrashers drafted the Spokane, WA, native in the fourth round, 116th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

This marks the second recall this season for Jensen, who made his NHL debut with Carolina on Feb. 18 at New Jersey. In 45 AHL games this season with Albany and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Jensen (5’11”, 180 lbs.) has scored eight goals and earned four assists. Jensen, 25, has also played in nine games with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL this season, earning seven points (4g, 3a). The Hurricanes acquired the Plymouth, MN, native on Jan. 31 from Pittsburgh in exchange for forward David Gove.

The Hurricanes host the Ottawa Senators tomorrow in a Sunday matinee at the RBC Center (3 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network) prior to beginning an eight-game, end-of-season stretch against Southeast Division teams at Atlanta on Wednesday. Tickets for all remaining Hurricanes home games are available at the Time Warner Cable Box Office at the RBC Center, all Ticketmaster locations, by calling 919-834-4000 or via www.CarolinaHurricanes.com.
