Eight Canes Named to World Championship Rosters
Seven NHL players and one prospect will join countries for competition in Canada
RALEIGH, NC— Eight members of the Carolina Hurricanes organization have been named to the national teams of their respective home countries. The 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships will take place from May 2-May 18 in Quebec City and Halifax, Canada.
Defenseman Tim Gleason (Clawson, MI) will represent the United States at the World Championships as the lone Carolina player on the American squad. Forwards Eric Staal (Thunder Bay, Ont.) and Ray Whitney (Ft. Saskatchewan, Alb) and goaltender Cam Ward (Saskatoon, Sask.) will each play for the host nation of Canada. Defensemen Dennis Seidenberg (Schwenningen, Germany) and Niclas Wallin (Boden, Sweden) and forward Tuomo Ruutu (Vantaa, Finland) will also play for their home countries in the tournament, and Hurricanes goaltending prospect Daniel Manzato will defend the nets for Switzerland.
