Guy Behind the Guy: Francis, Barrasso Take Media Golf Cup
Index | Archive

The rain held off long enough yesterday for us to get in the entire media golf tournament and the interviews afterwards, which were lively as usual. As far as appointment television goes, I would highly recommend setting your DVR to record the Sports Zone on NBC-17 on Sunday night, when Ray Whitney offers a bit of a different perspective on how the flu virus spread so rapidly through the Hurricanes locker room last season. But look for some solid Hurricanes interviews just about everywhere this week, particularly on WRAL-5, WNCN 17 and News 14 Carolina, and on the sports talk stations, 99.9. FM The Fan and 850 The Buzz.

WRAL has actually posted several of Jeff Gravely’s one-on ones from yesterday afternoon. The station also posted audio from 99.9 FM’s The Fanatics with Mike Maniscalco and Dave Rothenberg, broadcasted live from Brier Creek yesterday morning.

News 14 Carolina also posted several one-on-one interviews, as Jim Connors spent time with Jim Rutherford, Peter Laviolette and Ray Whitney. You can see those interviews by clicking on this link. I would expect that 850 The Buzz and NBC-17 will have some interviews available online soon as well, and I will try to link to them if they become available.

As far as the tournament itself went, Ron Francis and Tom Barrasso teamed to produce more championship memories with each other, taking the Media Golf Cup along with 850 The Buzz’s Adam Gold and WTVD’s Joe Mazur. Second place went to Team Brind’Amour, as the captain led Brian Tatum, 99.9 The Fan’s Mike Maniscalco and News 14’s Ryan Welch to the day’s second-lowest score. The third-best posted score belonged to The Wizard and Co., as Ray Whitney and Tom Rowe teamed with Penn Holderness and Mike Justice of NBC-17 to claim third prize. Congrats to all on another fun day out on the links.
