Guy Behind the Guy: Getting Closer

Believe it or not, physicals for training camp will start in less than 48 hours. The groups for the first few days of camp are close to set, and we hope to announce those by tomorrow. A few quick notes on comings-and-goings now and in the next few days.

  • The marketing department has a video crew and Hurricanes photographer Gregg Forwerck hard at work creating print and video material for its advertising campaigns this week. Seven Hurricanes players, including newcomer Joni Pitkanen, were involved in yesterday’s shoots. Four more will take part today. I’ve got to say, the more I see guys on the ice in those new uniforms, the more I like them.
  • Peter Laviolette did an interview yesterday with Morgan Patrick on 850 The Buzz and then this morning with The Fanatics on 99.9 FM The Fan. You can read some of what the coach had to say and hear clips of the interview this morning on WRAL’s website.
  • I’ve had a few questions about Saturday’s practice, and, as indicated on our website, Saturday’s practices are closed to the public because of the N.C. StateEast Carolina football game. I know that is disappointing for a lot of you, who enjoy attending those first few days of ice sessions. But obviously Sunday, the day of the annual Caniac Carnival, will be a great day for Caniacs at the RBC Center, and the majority of the remainder of training camp is open to the public, as are most practices during the regular season.
  • If you didn’t catch Ray Whitney’s interview with Penn Holderness on NBC-17 the other night, you can see it here . Enjoy. And no, I have no idea where to get one of those belts.
