“Michael is an experienced forward who will add depth to our organization,” said Rutherford. “He will be assigned to Albany at this time, but is capable of contributing on the NHL level.”

Ryan, 28, spent the past two seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, totaling four goals and four assists (8 points) in 46 games with the Sabres in 2007-08. The Boston, MA, native was originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round, 32nd overall, of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He has totaled 13 points (7g, 6a) and 32 penalty minutes in 65 career NHL games, all with the Sabres.

Ryan (6’1’’, 188 lbs.) has also played in parts of four seasons with the Rochester Americans of the AHL, tallying 122 points (56g, 66a). He netted 28 goals in just 50 games with the Americans in 2006-07, as he split that season between Rochester and Buffalo. Prior to turning professional, Ryan spent four seasons at Northeastern University, scoring 63 goals and earning 50 assists (113 points) in 135 career collegiate games.
