Thanksgiving is the time of year when I sit back and think about what I am thankful for….at the top of my list are my family and friends. I look forward to a day off when I can sit down with everyone close to me and enjoy a home-cooked feast.     Unfortunately not everyone is as fortunate as I am and that realization hit me yesterday when Stormy helped us deliver 50 turkeys to the Salvation Army.

For several weeks, Doris Barksdale, our fearless leader of Community Development, has been trying to find a way to get turkeys for the Salvation Army to help feed the homeless this Thanksgiving. Finally her hard work came to fruition when a local grocer volunteered to give us turkeys at a VERY discounted rate. So, Stormy spent Tuesday afternoon with Doris and other members of our department picking up these turkeys and delivering them to the Salvation Army.  What an experience.  The folks at the Salvation Army were so thankful for such little effort on our part.

I just finished reading an article on WRAL’s website about the Salvation Army and their “ringing of the bells” kettle drive for the holidays.  This year, they said it would be more like ringing an alarm that now when the need is up, donations are down.  Hopefully the Carolina Hurricanes’ donation can make a small dent in that large need.
