Canes Recall Borer, Conboy from Albany

RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defensemen Casey Borer and Tim Conboy from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. Rutherford also announced that forward Patrick Dwyer and defneseman Josef Melichar have been reassigned to Albany, the Hurricanes’ top minor-league affiliate.

Borer, 23, joins the Hurricanes after scoring one goal, adding three assists (4 points) and accumulating 18 penalty minutes while playing in all 21 of the River Rats’ games thus far this season. The Minneapolis, MN, native played in 11 games with Carolina in 2007-08, and notched a goal and two assists (3 points) in his first season of NHL action. Borer (6’2”, 205 lbs.), has earned 23 points (7g, 16a) in 83 AHL regular-season games with Albany since turning professional at the end of the 2006-07 season. The Hurricanes drafted Borer in the third round, 69th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, and signed him to a two-year, entry-level contract after his four-year career at St. Cloud State University.

Conboy, 26, returns to Carolina after beginning his fifth full professional season with Albany where he serves as the River Rats’ captain and ranks second on the team with 61 penalty minutes in 19 games played. The Farmington, MN, native saw his first NHL action in 2007-08, earning five assists and totaling 60 penalty minutes in 19 games with the Hurricanes while splitting time as a forward and a defenseman. Conboy (6’2”, 210 lbs.) has scored 15 goals, earned 37 assists (52 points) and amassed 673 penalty minutes in 285 AHL regular-season games with Cleveland and Albany since turning professional in 2003-04 after two seasons at St. Cloud State University. The San Jose Sharks originally drafted Conboy in the seventh round, 217th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, and he signed with Carolina as a free agent on July 21, 2006.
