For Casey Borer and Tim Conboy, it will be business as usual tonight.

Well, almost.

The two defensemen, who have played together dating back to their college days at St. Cloud State, will be paired together tonight just as they have been in Albany for the last two seasons.

“They’ve been playing as a pair together and they’ve been playing very well, and that was the message,” said coach Paul Maurice.  “Different locations, same game, same concepts.”

Conboy said the key to their game tonight is keeping things simple and not trying to do too much to impress the new coach at the NHL level.  That’s something Conboy had already been concentrating on after admittedly trying to overplay certain situations earlier this year as Albany’s new captain.

“I’m just playing a little bit more patient and trying to be a little more disciplined and not going around and looking for it,” he said.  “I’m just trying to let it come to me.”

Conboy played the first 19 games of his NHL career with the Canes last season, almost exclusively on the wing rather than his natural defensive position.

“That will be weird,” said Conboy.  “Sixteen of my games last year were played at forward, so it will be a little different at first, but I’ve been playing D down in Albany, so hopefully not much will change.”

With 60 penalty minutes in those 19 games last year, Conboy also brings more toughness to the Canes lineup.  With Frank Kaberle out and Scott Walker not expected to return until tomorrow at the earliest, Wade Brookbank should also be in the game, so the Canes won’t be lacking in that department.
