Recent Games Prepare Canes for New Jersey
The news that Patrick Eaves is back in tonight means that … I don’t even want to say it.

What you’ll find on this page probably deserves a 5,000 word feature story, but since hockey is such a superstitious sport for both players, fans and in some cases staff, I’ll just let you look for yourself and know that what you’re seeing is something that hasn’t happened in a long, long time.
Back to tonight’s game. The New Jersey Devils are usually the first team that comes to mind when thinking of the most defensive styles of play, and with good reason. However, having recently played games against defensive teams such as Boston, Minnesota and even St. Louis, the Canes should be well-prepared for tonight.
“I think it should be a benefit to us because we’ve played a number of these teams recently and we don’t have to try to re-sell an idea that we haven’t had to sell for a while,” said coach Paul Maurice.
What the Devils are specifically good at is blocking their opponents’ progress through the neutral zone, forcing turnovers and odd-man rushes going the other way. The Canes will need to be wary of that when breaking out of their own defensive zone, which is something they’ve been working on heavily in recent weeks.
As always, more details on tonight’s game available on the latest edition of our podcast.
We’ve covered this on the site already, but in case you missed it, our own Dave Droschak wrote a nice piece on the Sutter vs. Sutter match-up that will take place tonight between Brandon and his father Brent.
A reminder that you can get buy-one-get-one ticket vouchers for tonight’s game by donating an item of winter clothing up until game time at the box office. More details here.
