First, sorry for the lack of blogs lately. I would like to say that we took a two-week vacation but actually the holiday season kept us very busy. Couple that busy part of the season with finger issues that have hampered my typing (I should only play sports that require gloves) and you have a nice recipe for a quiet blog.

Clothing Drive BOGO
Tonight’s clothing drive is our final buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer night. Most everyone knows that if you bring an article of clothing you will receive a voucher good for up to 8 tickets (4 purchased, 4 free).

Also, as with all of the BOGO nights this season, you can also sign-up to win a replica autographed player jersey. However, TONIGHT FEATURES A NEW TWIST. If you win tonight, we will contact you in-game so that the jersey you are lucky enough to win is presented to you by that player in a private post-game meet and greet opportunity following tonight’s game.

Seven players’ significant others are participating tonight: Brind’Amour, Eaves, Larose, Leighton, Walker, Wallin and Ward.

So, that’s seven chances that you will have to win a jersey, meet the player and get their autograph. Not bad for simply cleaning out a few gently used items out of your closet (and no, if you did not wear the shirt the last two years…it’s not coming back in style in 2009).

The groups that will benefit from the clothing drive are the Salvation Army, Helping Hands Mission and Goodwill.

Stough Students at Practice Yesterday
Yesterday we were happy to host about 20 students from Stough Elementary school at practice. The students are all members of the Y-Learning Program at Stough and they have been showing great improvement in their class grades and end of grade test scores. We tried to say thanks by hosting them for a fun afternoon yesterday.   After a brief tour of the arena, we camped out near the glass to watch practice. They were visited during practice by Stormy and Chuck Kaiton.

After practice, Chad Larose and Tim Gleason came over to talk about the importance of working hard in sports and in school. Of course other questions popped up as it’s hard for kids to not ask about fighting…but at least Tim was able to remind them that he only fights on the ice. Tim and Chad signed posters and workbooks for all of the kids who will hopefully continue to work hard in the classroom.
