Community: Rookie of the Year NASCAR Helmet, Upcoming Events and More
The helmet that Regan Smith wore in two NASCAR Nextel Cup races in October is now up for auction. As you may recall, Regan is a big Canes fan and he wanted to create a helmet that he could wear to help signal the start of the 08-09 season.

However, I wanted to take a minute to commend Regan for being a community-focused Canes fan. Regan contacted us about wearing a Canes helmet in a race and then donating it to the Kids ‘N Community Foundation for auction. He picked up all the costs of the helmet…all the way down to shipping it to us.
When you check out the link, take a look at how well this helmet is painted. All of the primary logos are under the paint scheme and they really POP when they are under different light. The sides obviously feature the secondary logo as Regan was excited (like a lot of Canes fans) about the new third jerseys.
However, I think my favorite part of the helmet is the back. The back has a grey and black version of the primary logo (similar to the shoulder of the 3rd jerseys). It also has two vertical lines of warning flags (like the bottom of the jersey). There is a true attention to detail throughout the helmet…it definitely helps show how big a fan Regan is because we had no input into the helmet.
And if the helmet itself was not nice enough, he had some of his NASCAR friends sign the helmet as well, including Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman and Mark Martin. To top it off, Regan had the helmet cleaned before he sent it and he even included a few dryer sheets inside the helmet so it arrived smelling fresh (unlike some other equipment we sometimes receive).
In a fitting move, the helmet is up for auction until Monday, February 16th which is the day after the Daytona 500…the start of the 2009-10 race season for the NASCAR Nextel Cup.
I am looking forward to tonight’s Cool Bar for a few reasons. Of course, the game should be an exciting one between two teams that play similar styles and both went into the break on winning streaks. But ALSO, the Carolina Ale House is going to present the Kids ‘N Community Foundation with ANOTHER check.
It seems that the Carolina Ale House is constantly doing a fundraiser for the ‘Canes and tonight will be no different. Tonight we will announce the amount raised by their gift certificate sales over the holidays (as you remember, if you bought a gift certificate of $75 or more, you received a Canes autographed puck). Tonight we will also announce the kick-off of the Hearts Campaign.
As we did last year, we will sell paper hearts ($1) and magnetic logo hearts ($3) at all 6 local Carolina Ale House locations with all of the proceeds benefiting the Kids ‘N Community Foundation. That program kicks off Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 1st) and runs for two weeks (Sun. Feb. 15th). We are excited about the opportunity to run this program as last year we raised over $6,000.
Also, keep an eye out for an announcement about our player autographed T-Shirts for the Valentine’s Day game. We learned a lot from last year’s event and hope we can have the same type of success.
Last year we had 100 female T-shirts produced that featured the Kids ‘N Community Foundation’s heart logo in the center. Each T-shirt was signed by a Hurricanes player and then sold for $40 at our game on Valentine’s Day. We sold out in about 3 minutes (or however long it took to exchange bags for $40).
This year we have a new shirt that will again feature the heart logo in the center (they are cut a little larger too…last year’s were a little smaller than we had hoped). We also ordered 300 shirts this year…so hopefully we will have enough for everyone interested. The shirts will again be autographed and sold for $40 each on the Saturday, February 14th game with ALL of the PROCEEDS BENEFITTING the KIDS ‘N COMMUNITY FOUNDATION. The shirts are a high quality, look great and arrived yesterday…we should have a model on the web very soon.
GUYS- This is the perfect gift for the female Canes fan in your life. Think about it, you both get to watch hockey, she gets a cool shirt and you look good because you are doing something you both enjoy AND you made a donation to charity. It will probably be as good as the first time you saw Notting Hill…you know, one of the few date movies that is actually entertaining (whether you want to admit it or not is up to you…but come on…that movie was good).
