Pens\' Cooke Suspended for hit on Walker
In a somewhat surprising move, the NHL has suspended Matt Cooke of the Pittsburgh Penguins two games for a hit to the head on Scott Walker in last Tuesday's game.  Walker left the game as a result of the hit and did not return, but is feeling no ill effects now.

I say the move is surprising only because I don't remember hearing any outcry for supplemental discipline on Cooke beyond the minor penalty for interference he received at the time.  I can think of a few instances where there was such outcry with no suspensions handed out (Doug Weight's hit on Brandon Sutter, to an extent), but nothing quite like this.

My guess is that the league is making good on a promise to take a closer look at hits to the head around the league, and if that's the case, good for them.

I couldn't find a video clip to post here.  Now that a suspension has been handed out I suppose one might pop up - feel free to use the comment section on the message board to share anything you find.
