This has been a very busy week for us and I wanted to update you on some happenings. I will work my way up to last night’s fun “Guitar Hero” event at the Carolina Ale House with Brandon Sutter.

Last week I was joined by several of our staff members as we helped a large local non-profit, Interact, move into their new location on Oberlin Avenue. I was told it would be heavy lifting but I did not know exactly how heavy. Dustin, Rich and Will from our sales staff joined me as we moved a lot of office furniture and desks for Interact. Needless to say, the gym was not needed that night. Katharine and Hillary helped with placing the furniture and getting it ready for use once we moved it in.

We had a great time and learned a lot more about the new non-profit space. There will be nine organizations joining Interact in this large space. I can’t remember them all, but several are Kids ‘N Community Foundation grant recipients, including Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Wake Health Services and the YMCA.   Two Canes friends, the YWCA and the Raleigh Police Department, will also have space.

If you would like to help with the ongoing Interact move, contact Brooke Wheeler at brookew@interactofwake.org. I know they are looking for volunteers for gardening help on Saturday afternoon. You might even get a nice prize if you help.

Center Ice at Marbles
Center Ice at Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh re-opened this Saturday in their new Power 2 Play exhibit. I was able to get down and join Stormy and the Storm Squad in the grand opening of the new exhibit. I always have to fight the urge to join the kids on the rink and work on my wrister, but it was great time. I also had to fight the urge not to jump in their cool new ball pit. You need to check both out if you have not seen them.

Dinner and more
Monday was a busy day as we had three events. Coach Rowe spoke at WakeMed to over 200 different nurses and doctors, Stormy visited the Great Pies for Great Strides event benefiting Cystic Fibrosis and Eric Staal and Cam Ward dined with two of our winner’s from last year’s Casino Night Auction.

Eric and Cam spent several hours with the winners and their guests. They had a great time as there was a lot of hockey talk and of course some photos and autographs.

Brandon Sutter decides to stick to hockey
Last night, Brandon Sutter visited the Carolina Ale House in Wake Forest to play Guitar Hero against some of the area's best young rockers. Brandon was much better than he claimed before playing, Sandbag Sutter would have been a good nickname to start, but he did end up meeting his match several times. Sutter got off with two quick victories but then was demolished by a young lady who hit 97% on the expert level. Brandon’s confidence was a little shaken, especially after he lost to a 6-year-old boy…but he finished strong and was a good sport throughout (everyone there would have dominated my skills). Brandon stuck around to sign autographs and take photos. He even enjoyed his first Carolina Ale House meal.
