Canes Acquire Cole
The Hurricanes ended up making some serious noise when everything was said and done on deadline day, re-acquiring winger Erik Cole in a three-team trade that also sends Justin Williams to the Los Angeles Kings.

It’s a complex deal, so bear with me. The Hurricanes initially traded Williams to Los Angeles in exchange for Patrick O’Sullivan and Calgary’s second-round pick in 2009. Then, they moved O’Sullivan, along with their own second rounder this summer to Edmonton in exchange for Cole and Edmonton’s fifth-round pick, also in 2009.

To sum it up, Carolina gets Cole, Edmonton’s fifth-rounder and Calgary’s second-round pick, Edmonton gets O’Sullivan and Carolina’s second-round pick, and Los Angeles gets Williams.

Quite a move.

Jim Rutherford’s press conference coming up – we’ll have his reaction shortly.
