Hurricanes Announce Beard-a-Thon Program
Fans invited to grow beards to benefit the Kids 'N Community Foundation
RALEIGH, NC—Doug Warf, Director of Community Relations for the Carolina Hurricanes and Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation, today announced that the team will institute the Hurricanes Beard-a-thon program for the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Fans are invited to participate in the fundraising effort, growing their own playoff beards to help raise money for the Kids ‘N Community Foundation.
“As we have shown, we have some of the most passionate fans in the league,” said Warf. “The Beard-A-Thon gives our fans a chance to combine their passion for our team on the ice with our off-ice fundraising efforts.”
Participants in the Hurricanes Beard-a-thon will invite family, friends and business associates to pledge their playoff beards. Fans who are unwilling, or unable, to grow playoffs beards can participate by pledging to their favorite Hurricanes player in his efforts to grow a beard. For more information, or to enroll in the Hurricanes Beard-a-thon, please log onto www.beardathon.com/hurricanes. The Caniac that raises the most money will win tickets and a chance to meet with Hurricanes players, and will also be recognized at a Hurricanes home game during the 2009-10 season. All donations to the Hurricanes Beard-a-thon are tax deductible.
All proceeds will benefit the Kids ‘N Community Foundation. The Carolina Hurricanes Kids ‘N Community Foundation provides much needed funding to children’s charities and education programs throughout North Carolina. The Foundation has funded scholarship programs, youth hockey, educational and literacy efforts, children’s health programs, the arts and other children’s related initiatives. Annually, the Foundation provides cash and in-kind contributions of more than $1 million to charitable and educational programs in North Carolina. Every member of the Hurricanes organization is actively involved in community activities and the Hurricanes take great pride in the ability to have a positive impact in our state.
