I wanted to post a few pictures snapped around town, as local businesses and residents are showing their Caniac spirit. The photo from the BP station of the sign mentioning Cam Ward was actually snapped via camera phone by Ward’s biggest fan of all – his lovely wife, Cody. I took the one of the RSM McGladrey office building, which is right across the Edwards Mill/Trinity intersection from the RBC Center.

I thought it would be fun to collect more “Signs of the Times” photos here for display. If you happen to be driving around town and witness signs of support for the Canes, I will be happy to share the photos on this blog, crediting the contributing Caniac. An easy way to share would be to become “friends” with the official Carolina Hurricanes Facebook account and upload your picture to the “wall” there. If you aren’t on Facebook, you can send me a comment using the form below, and I will give you an address so you can send your photo to us.

Also, an update on the media participants in the Beard-a-thon. Joe Ovies of 850 the Buzz currently leads the media participants in fundraising, with 99.9 The Fan’s Mike Maniscalco a close second. Here are the links to each media participant’s profiles, including some spectacular shots of beard growth:

Media Alerts: Mike Maniscalco will host a special, two-hour episode of Canes Hockey Extra tonight on 99.9 FM from 7-9 p.m. Among his guests will be FS Carolinas and Versus play-by-play announcer John Forslund, who will jump on the air around 8 p.m. If you don’t live in the Raleigh area, 99.9 is available streaming here.

Tom Rowe will join Mike Ross and Phil Esposito today at 5:25 p.m. on XM’s Home Ice channel.

WRALSportsfan.com continues to be a great source of Hurricanes audio and video throughout the post-season, posting 99.9 interviews after they air and locker room interview footage as filmed by WRAL. In addition, the site continues to provide live chats and blogs with on-air hosts from 99.9 and WRAL.

Penn Holderness posted this story today about the Canes’ players own playoff beards, asking who exactly is the team’s MVB, or Most Valuable Beard.

Also, these are from last week, but 850 The Buzz posted several notable Hurricanes interviews on its blog, including Ray Whitney on the Jim Rome Show, Chad LaRose with Adam Gold and Joe Ovies and Eric Staal with David Glenn.
