Canes to Host Powerhockey Finals Sunday

RALEIGH, NC—Doug Warf, Director of Community Relations and Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation for the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the Hurricanes will host the final two games of the 2009 Carolina Powerhockey Invitational tournament on Sunday, July 19. The free event at the RBC Center will include a charity game at 3:30 p.m. with Hurricanes personnel, including captain Rod Brind’Amour, forward Chad LaRose and television analyst Tripp Tracy, facing off against staff from flagship radio station 99.9 FM The Fan. Radio voice of the Hurricanes, Chuck Kaiton, will emcee the event.

“This will be a fun, free event for our fans to enjoy and help support a great organization,” said Warf. “We have worked with the Carolina Fury since their inception, and we are happy to be hosting this important day for them.”

The RBC Center’s doors will open at 1:30 p.m. for the day’s events, which begin with the tournament’s third-place game at 2 p.m. The charity game between the Hurricanes and 99.9 FM The Fan will take place at 3:30 p.m., leading up to the tournament’s championship game at 5 p.m. The parking and admission for the event are free to the public, and fans are asked to enter the RBC Center through the East entrance.

This marks the first tournament hosted by local team, the Carolina Fury and the North Carolina Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association (NCEWHA). Teams from Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania will participate in the three-day event begins that with games on Friday and Saturday at Raleigh’s Millbrook High School.
