SUNDHEIM, HANLIN TO SERVE AS MEDIA CONTACTS
RALEIGH, N.C. (Dec. 31, 2002) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager for the Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes announced today that Mike Sundheim will assume responsibilities as the team’s Director of Media Relations and that the team has hired Kyle Hanlin to serve as Manager of Media Relations.
Sundheim is currently in his third season with the Hurricanes. He has served as the team’s Media Relations Manager since the summer of 2000, assisting in all publicity efforts for the team including the compilation of game day media notes and press releases and the production of publications including the media guide and post season guide. Sundheim spent two seasons with the Hurricanes as an intern while still a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from where he graduated with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication in May 2000. He also gained experience in the Sports Information department at UNC-CH and was an assistant sports editor for The Daily Tar Heel as an undergrad.
Hanlin rejoins the Hurricanes staff after spending the last year as the Manager of Information for the Washington Capitals. Prior to joining the Capitals, Hanlin served as Website Reporter for CarolinaHurricanes.com, the Hurricanes’ official team website. He served as an intern in media relations for the Hurricanes from Aug. 2000 through Jan. 2000. Hanlin graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication in Dec. 2000. In addition to his internship with the Hurricanes, he gained experience as an online editor for The Daily Tar Heel and as an intern at WashingtonPost.com in Washington, D.C.
