Kevin McCarthy Named to Flyers' Coaching Staff
Longtime Carolina assistant to join Peter Laviolette in Philadelphia
“We would like to thank Kevin for his contributions and time with the franchise, and again thank Peter for helping the team to the Stanley Cup,” said Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Hurricanes. “I am happy that Kevin has been given an opportunity to re-join both Peter and his good friend Paul Holmgren in Philadelphia.”
McCarthy, 52, was in his 18th year with the Hurricanes organization, and 12th consecutive season as a member of the Hurricanes’ coaching staff. The former NHL defenseman had also served as the head coach of the franchise’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate before being promoted to the NHL. McCarthy worked for the Flyers prior to joining the Hurricanes organization, serving two seasons as the coordinator of pro scouting and player development from 1990-92. McCarthy played four of his 10 NHL seasons with Philadelphia.
