Hurricanes Recall Boychuk, Tlusty

RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forwards Zach Boychuk and Jiri Tlusty from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL).

This marks the third NHL recall of the season for Boychuk, 20, who has earned one assist in three games this season with the Hurricanes. The Airdrie, Alb., native ranks second among River Rats skaters with 24 points, and tied for second on the team with 11 goals. Drafted in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Boychuk totaled 110 goals and 161 assists (271 points) in 237 career Western Hockey League (WHL) games for Lethbridge.

Tlusty, 21, begins his fourth NHL recall of the season and third with the Hurricanes, having totaled one goal and one assist (2 points) in five games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Hurricanes. Acquired by the Hurricanes from the Maple Leafs on Dec. 3, in exchange for the rights to Philippe Paradis, Tlusty has eight goals and seven assists (15 points) in 23 AHL games this season with Albany and Toronto. The Maple Leafs’ first round selection, 13th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Tlusty has totaled 11 goals and 11 assists (22 points) in 77 career NHL games with Toronto and Carolina.
