Tuomo Ruutu became the latest casualty Friday night against Colorado, when he suffered an upper-body injury in a first-period fight with Darcy Tucker. He left the game immediately and did not return.
”It’s more than day-to-day,” said coach Paul Maurice of Ruutu’s status. “How long it’s going to be I don’t know, but it’s probably going to be a couple of weeks.”
The latest blow increases the team’s number of injured forwards to five, not including Eric Staal, who has missed the last two games for personal reasons. Although no player in the injured group will be ready to return Sunday against Ottawa, Maurice said that Staal could possibly return to the lineup. If not, another recall to Albany will be needed.
