Canes, 99.9 FM The Fan Agree to Two-Year Extension
Capitol Broadcasting Company station will continue as flagship for Hurricanes Radio Network
RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the club has reached an agreement on a two-year extension with Capitol Broadcasting Company to keep 99.9 FM The Fan as the flagship station of the Hurricanes Radio Network. The agreement continues the Hurricanes’ and The Fan’s partnership through the 2011-12 NHL season.
“Capitol Broadcasting is a valuable partner for the Hurricanes, and we are pleased to keep 99.9 The Fan as the radio home for the Hurricanes,” said Rutherford.
The Fan, as it has since its inception in October 2007, will continue to carry Hall of Fame broadcaster Chuck Kaiton’s play-by-play calls of all Hurricanes games.
“Having the Hurricanes’ games on The Fan gives us a strong foundation for our local sports coverage,” said Brian Maloney, general manager for The Fan. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with the area’s only major-league team.”
Under the terms of the extension, The Fan will continue to produce ancillary Hurricanes programming, including its pre- and post-game shows, Stormfront and Aftermath, surrounding each game.
“The Fan does a great job covering the Hurricanes,” said Kyle Hanlin, manager of media relations/broadcast coordinator for the Hurricanes. “The pre- and post-game shows and other Hurricanes programming help to take fans inside the locker room and stay up-to-date on the team.”
