Tim Gleason Added to United States\' Olympic Roster

RALEIGH, NC—USA Hockey today announced that Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Tim Gleason has been added to Team USA’s roster for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games to take place in Vancouver, BC, Feb. 15-28. Gleason replaces Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mike Komisarek, who will require season-ending surgery for a shoulder injury suffered on Jan. 2.

Gleason, 27, is in his sixth NHL season and his fourth with the Hurricanes. The Clawson, MI, native has notched a career-best five goals, and earned 10 assists (15 points) in 48 games thus far in 2009-10. He ranks second among Carolina defensemen with 89 blocked shots and ranks tied for 20th among all NHL defensemen with 119 hits. Gleason (6’0”, 217 lbs.) has scored 12 goals and earned 58 assists (70 points) in 380 career NHL regular-season games with Los Angeles and Carolina. He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the first round, 23rd overall, of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

This marks Gleason’s first selection to Team USA’s Olympic squad. He has previously represented the United States in international competition at the 2001 and 2003 World Junior Championships, as well as the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships
