RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled goaltender Justin Peters from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). Rutherford also announced that forward Chad LaRose has been placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury sustained in the team’s game against Chicago on Jan. 30.

Update: The move was made after Cam Ward was ruled out with an upper-body injury.  He will return to Raleigh for further evaluation.

Peters, 23, has been recalled to the NHL five times in his career, though he has yet to see action in an NHL game. He is 18-13-2 with a 2.55 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage in 34 AHL games for Albany this season. The Blythe, Ont., native played in the 2010 AHL All-Star Classic on Jan. 19, stopping nine of 11 shots during the second period of a 10-9 Canadian AHL All-Stars victory. The Hurricanes’ second-round selection, 38th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Peters is 54-64-6 with a 2.87 goals-against average in 135 career AHL games with the River Rats.
