Canes Activate Tuomo Ruutu from Injured Reserve
Forward has missed Carolina’s last 15 games
RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated forward Tuomo Ruutu from injured reserve. Ruutu has missed the Hurricanes’ last 15 games after sustaining an upper-body injury on Jan. 8 against Colorado.
Ruutu, 26, ranked tied for second on the team in goals (11) and ranked third in points (25) while playing in 39 of the Hurricanes’ games prior to the injury. The Vantaa, Finland, native is in his sixth NHL season, and has scored 89 goals and earned 106 assists (198 points) in 363 regular-season games with Chicago and Carolina. The Blackhawks drafted Ruutu (6’0”, 205 lbs.) in the first round, ninth overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He will represent his Finland at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Feb. 14-28.
