Carolina acquires Caps’ 2010 seventh-round pick

RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has traded right wing Scott Walker to the Washington Capitals in exchange for the Capitals’ 2010 seventh-round pick.

Walker, 36, has scored three goals, earned two assists (5 points) and totaled 23 penalty minutes in 33 games with Carolina this season. Since joining the Hurricanes via a July 2006 trade with Nashville, the Cambridge, Ont., native has scored 43 goals, earned 60 assists (103 points) and accumulated 222 penalty minutes in 213 regular-season games. He scored the overtime, game-winning goal in Game 7 of the 2009 Eastern Conference Semifinals at Boston, and had one goal and six assists (7 points) while playing in every game of the Hurricanes’ 2009 playoff run. Walker (5’10”, 196 lbs.) has scored 149 goals, earned 245 assists (394 points) and totaled 1,153 penalty minutes in 820 career regular-season games with Vancouver, Nashville and Carolina.
