Hurricanes Trade Andrew Alberts to Vancouver
Carolina acquires Canucks’ 2010 third-round draft pick
RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has traded defenseman Andrew Alberts to Vancouver in exchange for the Canucks’ 2010 third-round draft pick.
Alberts, 28, has notched two goals and earned eight assists (10 points) in 62 games this season with the Hurricanes. He leads the Hurricanes and ranks fourth among NHL defensemen this season with 178 hits. The Minneapolis, MN, native has scored four goals, earned 38 assists (42 points) and accumulated 366 penalty minutes in 325 career NHL regular-season games with Boston, Philadelphia and Carolina. The Bruins drafted Alberts (6’5”, 218 lbs.) in the sixth round, 179th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, and the Hurricanes signed him as a free agent in July 2009.
