Four Canes Prospects Named to World Junior Teams

RALEIGH, NC – Four Carolina Hurricanes prospects have been named to their respective countries’ rosters for the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championships. This year’s tournament will take place in Buffalo, NY, from Dec. 26, 2010-Jan. 5, 2011. The United States’ roster includes defensemen Brian Dumoulin and Justin Faulk, while defensemen Tommi Kivisto and Rasmus Rissanen will represent Finland.

Dumoulin, 19, is a sophomore at Boston College (Hockey East) and ranks second among Eagles skaters this season with 10 assists in 16 games. As a freshman in 2009-10, he led his team and all Hockey East skaters with a plus-40 plus/minus rating, and helped Boston College capture the NCAA National Championship. Carolina drafted the Biddeford, ME, native in the second round, 51st overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Faulk, 18, is a freshman at the University of Minnesota Duluth (WCHA), and has earned 15 points (6g, 9a) in 18 games this year. The South St. Paul, MN, native was selected by the Hurricanes in the second round, 37th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Kivisto, 19, has played 17 games this season for Jokerit of Finland’s top league, SM-Liiga. Carolina selected the Vantaa, Finland, native in the seventh round, 208th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Rissanen, 19, has skated in 35 games this season for Everett (WHL), totaling a team-high 51 penalty minutes. The Hurricanes selected the Kuopio, Finland, native in the sixth round, 178th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The Hurricanes’ four prospects will square off against each other in each team’s opening game of the tournament on Dec. 26 at HSBC Arena (8 p.m.). All Team USA games at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championships, as well as all medal-round games and select preliminary-round games, of the can be seen on NHL Network in the U.S.
