McBain Added to Rookies for All-Star Weekend
RALEIGH, NC – The National Hockey League today announced that Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jamie McBain has been chosen as one of 12 NHL rookies to participate in the NHL All-Star Weekend. Earlier today, the NHL announced that Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner has been promoted to the NHL All-Star Game, creating an extra spot for the rookies. In addition, Edmonton rookie Jordan Eberle had to remove himself from rookie participation due to an injury.

McBain, 22, ranks fifth among NHL rookie defensemen in scoring this season with three goals and 14 assists (17 points) in 49 games played. He is tied for fourth among rookie defensemen in assists (14) and is fourth in power-play points (6). The Edina, MN, native made his NHL debut on March 16, 2010, and became just the second player in franchise history to earn points in each of his first four NHL games. McBain (6’2”, 200 lbs.) led all Carolina skaters in plus/minus in 2009-10 with a plus-6 rating, despite only playing in 13 games on the NHL level. A Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist in 2009 at the University of Wisconsin, McBain was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the second round, 63rd overall, of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

McBain will participate in the Honda NHL SuperSkills on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the RBC Center. He is one of four Hurricanes representatives at NHL All-Star Weekend, joining All-Stars Cam Ward, Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner.
