Eric Staal Named NHL's First Star of the Week
Hurricanes captain had four points in two Carolina wins heading into All-Star break
RALEIGH, NC – The National Hockey League today announced that Carolina Hurricanes center Eric Staal has been named First Star of the Week for the week ending Jan. 30.
Staal, 26, had two goals and two assists (4 points) as the Hurricanes won games against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Islanders during the short week heading into the NHL’s All-Star Weekend. The Thunder Bay, Ont., native served as captain for Team Staal during All-Star Weekend in Raleigh, and netted a pair of goals in the 2011 NHL All-Star Game to extend his All-Star Game scoring streak to four games. Staal currently ranks eighth in the NHL in scoring this season (52 points) and tied for seventh in the league in goals (25).
