The summer hockey camps will utilize a two-week format, featuring camps for players of all skill levels. The first week, from Aug. 1-5, will be a developmental camp intended for players with three or fewer years of hockey experience. The developmental camp will focus on honing specific skills. For the fifth consecutive year, this week will also include the Hurricanes Goaltenders Clinic. Former Western Michigan University goaltender Bill Horn will once again lead this tutorial.

The second week, known as “Elite Week,” will run from Aug. 8-12. It will involve high-intensity instruction and is intended for travel squirts and pee-wees. This week focuses on skill development and power skating with an emphasis on battle drills and checking. As female players make up one of the fastest-growing areas of youth hockey, the Hurricanes also will hold an all-girls camp during the second week. Beginners and advanced female players will receive high-level instruction that will allow players to excel and develop skating and skills.

All instructional camps will wrap up with a Super Friday game, featuring commentary from John Forslund, the Hurricanes’ play-by-play announcer.

The Carolina Hurricanes Summer Hockey camps are staffed by coaches with vast hockey experience, including Paul Strand, Duke University coach Brent Selman, Former Hartford Whalers draft choice Horn and current Massachusetts Institute of Technology coach Dave Hunter. As in prior years, Hurricanes front office personnel, coaches and players will join this year’s camps. Former Hurricanes players Tom Barrasso, Rod Brind’Amour, Ron Francis and Glen Wesley, as well as active players Chad LaRose and Cam Ward, have participated in the camps in recent years.
