RALEIGH, NC – Doug Warf, Senior Director of Marketing for the Carolina Hurricanes and Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation, today announced that the Carolina Hurricanes Kids 'N Community Foundation has completed its spring grant process, the latter of two grant cycles during the 2010-11 season, and will donate $304,900 to 44 different children’s charitable organizations in the Triangle and North Carolina.

The Kids 'N Community Foundation received a record 87 grant requests during this spring cycle. Thanks in large part to the Sixth Annual Casino Night and Wine Tasting, sponsored by Convergence Technologies, which raised more than $250,000, the Foundation was able to respond to that demand. With the spring grants, the Foundation has new record highs for both the spring cycle donation total, and the number of organizations assisted in any single grant cycle. For the season, the Foundation has now donated $539,771 to 71 different children's charities, marking the second-highest donation total in the Foundation's history and establishing a new record for number of charities assisted. 

The Kids ‘N Community Foundation assisted 11 new charities this spring, including A Child’s Place of Charlotte, which provides opportunities for homeless children in Mecklenburg County, the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, which fills backpacks with basic essentials for children in need, and the Scotland County Education Foundation, which uses funding to run a summer reading program for elementary school-aged children. The Carolina Hurricanes Kids ‘N Community Foundation provides much needed funding to children’s charities and education programs throughout North Carolina. The Foundation has funded scholarship programs, youth hockey, educational and literacy efforts, children’s health programs, the arts and other children’s related initiatives. Annually, the Foundation provides cash and in-kind contributions of more than $1 million to charitable and educational programs in North Carolina.
